Motorola Krave ZN4 Review - Introduction

Released earlier this fall, Motorola's Krave ZN4 from Verizon Wireless joins a strong crowd of competitors in the U.S. touch screen phone market. Unlike the Apple iPhone or the latest BlackBerry Storm, the Krave is no smartphone, but it offers features and design that is unique in its own right.

The Krave touts not one, but two innovative touch screens, a one-of-a-kind design and superior multimedia services including live television from Verizon's VCAST Mobile TV, Rhapsody music service and the VZ Navigator GPS application.

Despite being a flip phone, the Krave's transparent cover only enhances the phone's vibrant 2.8-inch TFT LCD screen underneath. Additional highlights include a 2.0-megapixel camera, MP3 music player software, 3.5mm headset jack, full QWERTY keyboard and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity.connectivity.

Pantech Slate C530: ‘World’s Thinnest Device’?

For some, cell phones are more for text messaging than talking. For those who subscribe to the textaholic camp, AT&T has a number of text messaging-friendly cell phones with the Pantech Slate C530 as one of its standouts.

AT&T claims that the Slate is the “world’s thinnest device”. AT&T complemented the release of the Pantech Slate at the end of 2008 with three other text-friendly cell phones: the AT&T Quickfire, Samsung Propel and Pantech Matrix.

The Pantech Slate measures in at 0.39 of an inch thin.

The Sony Ericsson W350, by the way, claims to be the “thinnest flip phone available” today. By contrast, the Sony Ericsson W350 is 0.41 of an inch thin (or 10.5 millimeters).

As for the popularity of texting, studies say the majority of people have never texted before. For those who do, though, many are rabid texters.

A Nielsen study revealed that U.S. consumers now use their cell phones for text messaging more often than for talking. To make that statement, 50,000 people were queried who were thought to represent the average U.S. cell phone population.

The data, which was gathered in the second quarter of 2008, revealed that on average each user sends 357 texts a month versus 204 voice calls.

Price

Enter the Pantech Slate C530. Designed from the ground up to specifically target heavy textaholics, the price can come all the way down to a budget-priced $49.99 after a $50 AT&T mail-in rebate and a two-year service contract.

Without a two-year AT&T service contract or mail-in rebate, you’re looking at a not-so-affordable $249.99 at no-commitment pricing.

Justin Timberlake Brought Sexy Back; YUBZ Now Bringing Retro Back

Geek is the new chic and retro is the new cool.

That, at least, is how YUBZ sees things. Just as Justin Timberlake brought sexy back in 2006, YUBZ is now hoping to bring retro back to cell phones. Sure, it’s a gimmick, but you can’t say it’s not a fun one. The pictures below do all the talking.

The YUBZ Talk Mobile headsets, which range from $44.95 to $59.95, are on sale now at YUBZ.com. While an eye-catching metallic gold finish headset was released last week, they also come in yellow, orange, red, black and (unfortunately) pink.

While YUBZ says the headset is compatible with most mobile phones today, the company says some do require an adapter whereas others will easily plug directly into the headset. A retro volume slider lets you adjust the sound level, too.

Recycle Your Cell Phone Free From "The Spirit" With Scarlett Johansson

The new Frank Miller film “The Spirit” wants more than just your money as a moviegoer. The film from the “Sin City” director also wants to save you money, too, and help protect against the improper disposal of old cell phones.

Recycle your cell phone with “The Spirit” here.

The film says it’ll pay for you to recycle your old cell phone with a postage-paid mailing label if you “answer the call” and do the right thing.

At http://www.answer-the-call.net, the film says: “Join Ema and The Spirit to answer the call and recycle your old cell phones. Old phones can’t be thrown away as they have parts that are considered toxic. Many of them end up gathering dust. Now it is easy to recycle your phones and help protect the environment.”

While the film also offers 10 other green tips to be an “environmental hero,” my list of 13 cell phone-specific environmental tips can be found here. Information about green cell phone service carriers can be found here.

iPhone takes on the handheld gaming world with Metal Gear Solid Touch!

Apple seem to have made they’re feelings on the iPhone’s gaming potential quite clear over the past couple of months with several big players in the games industry committing to the touchscreen mobile phone. And now, Apple can count another feather in their cap with the announcement from games giant Konami that they will be releasing an iPhone 3G and iPod Touch exclusive version of the massively popular Metal Gear Solid games series. The Game, expected to be available through the App store in spring next year under the imaginative title Metal Gear Solid Touch will see gamers control their character with that beautiful 3.5 inch TFT display.

Initially, the game will be released with 8 levels, with incentives such as wallpapers rewarding players who complete each level. Though anyone who has played an MGS game will agree that getting this on to the iPhone will be no easy task, what this goes to show is just what a multimedia monster the iPhone 3G really is. Having already revolutionised music mobile phones with iTunes, mobile phone web browsing and SatNav, it seems portable gaming is next in Apples sights. With versions of Pacman and Sega’s popular Super Monkey Ball series already available along with a host of games specifically designed for the App store, the i Phone is definitely flexing its gaming muscles. While this may only be of interest to the gaming half of the iPhone population, it proves what the Apple iPhone is really capable of. Without question, the iPhone 3G is much more than just a phone.

Vertu Boucheron 150 - can you afford it?

Boucheron Jewelry House together with Vertu has developed a mobile phone for people in luxury. The Vertu Boucheron 150 is made of solid gold casing and the keys on its keypad are made from sapphire crystal. This 3G device took over 1000 hours to finish one of these luxurious phones and it's very expensive! How expensive? Around $30,000. Now, can you afford that? Some of you probably could, but why?

It's not just a cellular phone, of course and it should be treated as a fine jewelry. With all the work done to create one of these, it's no wonder why it will cost so much! It also comes with a wooden casing similar to expensive jewelry boxes so you know that what you have is to be treasured.

Samsung M8800L Pixon is coming to the US

The Samsung M8800 was introduced in Europe as an 8 megapixel camera phone. It's pretty much a digital camera with a cellular phone which is quite different to having a phone with a camera. Why is it different? Because Samsung M8800L Pixon 8 megapixel camera phone takes really clear and crisp pictures that you won't even believe those photos are taken by a camera phone and not a real digital camera!

Since it arrived in Europe, the M8800 is like a dream, so close to having it but you just can't have it... at least not yet. Now, thanks to AT&T the Samsung M8800 is going to the U.S. as the Samsung M8800L. It has AT&T 3G and has 850 MHz and 1900 MHz WDCMA bandwidth which is what sets it apart from the Europe's M8800 version.

It was rumored before that Samsung M8800 will be going to the U.S. in partnership with T-Mobile so don't be shocked to find out it's not under T-Mobile, after all it was just a rumor. Hopefully AT&T will be giving a good price for this mobile phone so more Americans can afford it. No word as to how much it would cost yet so we better stay tuned.

Vertu Boucheron 150 Crafted from Solid Gold

Luxury mobile phone maker Vertu has teamed up with French jewellery house Boucheron to create the Vertu Boucheron 150, a limited edition mobile phone built from solid gold.

Prepared in celebration of Boucheron's 150th anniversary, the Vertu Boucheron 150 is crafted from individual solid gold ingots taking over 1000 man hours to cut to shape, with over 700 man hours of hand polishing followed by 500 hours of hand building.

The concave sapphire crystal keypad is intricately designed with 400 points, providing the toughest of challenges for the most skilled of craftsmen. The constantly changing angled surfaces allow a cut stone appearance, inspired by the clearly faceted stones which are part of Boucheron's core craft.

The Boucheron 150 was created to reflect both brands. The Vertu V-shape morphs into random proportioned patterns and directions of the three sided surfaces creating a blend of Vertu and Boucheron elements. It gains a visual sparkle not from precious stones but instead through pure form and line achieved with precious faceted metal.

The Boucheron 150 is housed in a bespoke hand-made wooden case by Reuge, the market leading Swiss makers of artisan music boxes. The box has a custom-built brass music drum that plays the signature Vertu sandpiper ringtone upon opening.

"Using the Vertu Signature platform, but taking it away from the core design and creating a visibly stunning statement that breaks all expectations of mobile phone design, resulting in a true piece of sculpture," said Frank Nuovo, Principal Designer of Vertu.

The Vertu Boucheron 150 will cost $30,000 and be on display at the recently launched Vertu store in London starting November 19, before a showcase tour at Vertu stores in Paris, Milan and Tokyo.

Nokia N97 Demo Video

If a picture paints a thousand words, then what is a video worth? Well it’s priceless to Nokia’s PR team it would seem as they look to continue to build on the buzz surrounding the Nokia N97. So, to set the excitement level to boiling point Nokia have released a short demo video showing off the skills of the first ever touch screen Nseries mobile phone, the N97. Sporting a classy iced white colour scheme and effortlessly showing off the slide out QWERTY keyboard mechanism, the most interesting aspect is, unsurprisingly, the 3.5 inch touchscreen. If the finished article is any where near as quick and responsive as this clip suggests then Nokia are surely on to a winner with the N97. But rather than waste a thousand words (or how ever many it would take!) describing it, why don’t we just show you…

Tongue wagging? Mine too. The Nokia N97 is slated for a Q1 2009 launch and i can’t wait to get my grubby mitts on one! To keep up to date on the latest developments, click here and be sure to keep an eye on the blog.

The E63, Nokia’s latest handset in the QWERTY messaging E-Series range

Nokia recently announced the latest addition to its steadily developing E-series range, the Nokia E63, designed for people who need to manage their business and personal lives equally well through the use of the internet, emails and office applications. It measures up at 113 x 59 x 13 mm, weighs 126g and to be completely honest has a faint resemblance to Blackberry’s Curve and Bold with its flat shape, large screen, wide QWERTY keyboard and touch sensitive ‘Navi wheel’, again fairly similar to BlackBerry with their ‘TrackBall’ which can be found on most of their phones including their latest edition, the 8220 Pearl, their first leap into the flip phone market.
The E63 is a messaging device that will allow people to be just as involved in their social network as they are in their business network, so it comes packed with Wi-Fi connectivity, easy access to Mail for Exchange and dedicated key access to contacts, calendar and emails. Nokia have also added the ability to switch modes with a single key press, switching from a view of corporate mail, appointments and intranet data, to a personal mode with pictures of friends, personal email and shortcuts to favourite hobby blogs or websites.
The phone will be available in ruby red or ultramarine blue with a range of multimedia features. Record and view images and videos with the 2 megapixel camera and bright landscape display, listen to music downloaded from the Nokia Music Store, or a number of other sources via the standard 3.5 mm audio jack or customise the device through the thousands of applications available for download. It also includes Files on Ovi, a service where people can get remote access to their PC files even when their computer is offline. It has also been suggested that anyone buying the phone will have access to 1GB of online file storage for free, though this is still tbc.
